Funding criteria and priorities – what we’re looking for

What are we looking for in an application?
We are looking to support heritage projects that:
- Focus on the improvement or retaining of our local history
- Can deliver on stated outcomes and meet accountability requirements
- Show how the funding contributes to at least two of the community outcomes in the long term council community plan (LTCCP) on page 5 of the application form

What types of projects/activities will we fund?
We’ll fund projects and activities that:
- Promote and encourage heritage conservation in Hutt City through the use of advocacy and education
- Involve local area heritage programmes and activities in Hutt City
- Involve publications on the local history and heritage of sites, buildings, people and events
- Further develop the council’s heritage policy
What types of projects/activities won’t we fund?
We won’t fund project/activity costs that go towards:
- Services or projects with a primary focus on recreation or sporting activities
- Salaries, although fixed term (project based) salaries may be considered
- Purchasing or altering land or buildings
- Organisations that receive significant funding from central government, such as schools and kindergartens
- Organisations who plan to redistribute funds to recipients at their own discretion
- Debt repayment or loan refinancing
- Vehicles or overseas travel
- Medical expenses, operations or treatment, either here or overseas
- Capital investments or trust funds
Funding accountability and compliance
When you receive funding from us for any project, activity or event:
- Funds must be used only for the purpose for which they were sought and approved, and in accordance with any terms and conditions imposed by the assessment committee
- Funds must be used within 12 months of you being notified of your successful application
- You need to inform the funding officer immediately if any difficulty or potential difficulties arise which may compromise the service or project
- You need to lay a complaint with the police if any funds are stolen or misappropriated, and then notify us
- You need to allow an audit on the use of the funds if we decide to undertake one
- You need to recognise our support in all publicity material, annual reports and similar publications
- You need to provide an accountability report (which we will send you in due course) outlining the use of the funds and the benefit to the community no later than 6 weeks after completion of your project/event.
