Funding criteria and priorities – what we’re looking for

What are our priorities?
We look to support organisations or groups that:
- Primarily assist with the development of economically or socially disadvantaged groups, particularly Maori, Pacific people, refugees and migrants, elderly, beneficiaries and disabled people
- Operate in areas with high deprivation levels, including Naenae, Wainuiomata, Pomare, Taita and pockets in Stokes Valley, Petone and Moera
- Meet the needs of young people and their families to assist them in developing their full potential through intervention programmes, initiatives and activities – this also includes parental education programmes and youth development initiatives
- Encourage the use of or improve access to community facilities, allowing community groups to have a focal point for assistance, support, networking and capacity building opportunities
- Encourage growth and connection with and across communities
The purpose of the funding – what we will and won’t fund
What will we fund?
Funding may be granted for the following costs associated with organisational capacity building or staff development within the organisation:
- Staff training and development
- Governance training and development
- Implementing new or improved office systems, such as new financial management systems or software programmes
- Developing business plans and budgets
- Developing policies and procedures for the operation of the organisation or group
- Marketing and promotional material
What won’t we fund?
We won’t provide funding for:
- Individuals
- Services or projects with a primary focus on recreational or sporting activities
- Purchasing or altering land, or building maintenance
- Organisations that receive significant funding from central government, such as schools and kindergartens
- Organisations that intend to redistribute funds to recipients at their own discretion
- Repaying or refinancing debt
- Vehicles or overseas travel
- Medical expenses, operations or treatments, either here or overseas
- Capital investment or trust funds
- Retrospective costs
Funding accountability and compliance
- Funds must be used for the purpose for which they were sought and approved, and in accordance with any terms and conditions imposed
- You need to inform the funding officer immediately if any difficulty or potential difficulties arise which may compromise the service or project
- You need to lay a complaint with the Police if any funds are stolen or misappropriated, and then notify us
- You need to allow an audit on the use of the funds if we decide to undertake one
- You need to recognise our support in all publicity material, annual reports and similar publications
- You need to provide an accountability report outlining the use of the funds and the benefit to the community no later than 6 weeks after completion of your project/event.
