Food business registrations

If you're manufacturing, preparing, packing or storing any food for sale, you will need a registration certificate prior to commencing trading.

Here are the types, classes and application forms to help you through the process.

Types of registrations you can apply for

Food Control Plans

The Food Control Plan has been developed to provide food businesses with a set of procedures and records that can be tailored to help them manage food safety and suitability in their business.

New food business

If you are starting up a new food business you will need a Certificate of Hygiene prior to opening.

Food stall registration

If you are starting up a food stall and trading on a regular basis eg Riverbank Market you will need to register it with us.

Renewing your registration

Your Certificate of Hygiene needs to be renewed each year if you plan to continue running your food business. If you plan to change the category of the licence you will need to apply for a new licence. Registrations cover the period from 1 July to 30 June each year.

Re-opening an existing food business

If you are taking over a food business that has been closed for a while you will need to apply for a licence and get the necessary checks to ensure it is safe to serve food from the premises.

Transfer of an existing food business

If you are transferring a food business in existing premises designed for a food business, you will need to register it in your own name.

Temporary food stall registration

If you are planning a temporary food stall, you will need to get a Temporary Registration Certificate.

The A grade certificate

An ‘A’ grade Certificate of Hygiene is issued in recognition of achievement and maintenance of high standards of food handling and hygiene by a food business.

Fees and charges for food business registrations in all risk categories.

Fees and charges include Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 15%.
