In the 12 months to June 30, more than 81,000 lessons were run for Hutt City children in swimming, football and movement lessons. A fourth type of lesson, Get Set Go, run in conjunction with Athletics New Zealand, began this financial year. The initiative to promote sport among school-aged children is funded by the Ministry of Education and administered by Sport New Zealand with help from the council.
