It’s only two days until the first of the summer season of markets in Margaret St, and Mayor Wallace is right behind the council initiative.
“Outdoor markets are great fun, and they’re the perfect excuse to get outside during the day or stick around in the evening.
“I expect the market will give the Lower Hutt CBD a real boost during summer, and give people another reason to come into the city.”
From noon to 8.30pm on Thursdays, Margaret St between Queens Drive and High St will be turned into a pedestrian-only area.
Almost 30 stallholders are taking part in the market, which runs weekly until 7 February.
While live music is scheduled for the evenings, council is still keen to hear from anyone wanting to provide entertainment during the day, such as face-painters, balloon-animal makers etc. Contact Cyndi Christensen on 570 6963 or cyndi.christensen@huttcity.govt.nz to find out more.
