Cycle network development

An ongoing programme of works to improve and extend our city’s cycling facilities, both on and off-road.

What’s this project about?

Whether you cycle for fun, recreation, fitness or daily transport, our city’s ongoing investment in better facilities means cycling will be safer and more enjoyable for you.

Each year, the Long Term Council Community Plan provides funding for cycleway network development, to extend the network and improve its quality and safety. In 2010/11, around $350,000 was spent.

Major off-road cycle routes are the Hutt River Trail, and The Esplanade (Korokoro to Hikoikoi) shared pathway.

The Eastern Bays shared pathway is also under development as part of the network, and has a separate budget.
