McKenzie Pool concept design
Public feedback was sought on three design options. 358 responses were received with Option 2 being favoured.
The redevelopment is one step closer with detailed design now completed and building consent being lodged.

The detailed design phase has resulted in improvements to the overall design layout with the old entrance building now being demolished and a new office constructed at the west end of the ablution block.
What’s next?
The project and budget of $2.2m was approved in late June 2012, through the Long Term Plan process.
As at May 2013 - Demolition has been completed. Earthworks and foundations are currently under construction for the two pools and new office building. Over the next couple of months the pool floor slabs will be poured, work started for the upgraded changing rooms and pool plant rooms. The new pools are on track to arrive in Wellington in June.
Project timeline
The current timeline for the project is:
- December – Consent and ROI for construction released
- Late February – Letting of the 3 construction contracts
- Late February/March 2013 – Demolition and Construction commences
- October to November – Commissioning and testing
- November – Pool opens for the 2013-14 season

McKenzie Pool is an outdoor, summer only facility located in Udy Street, Petone. Built in the early 1930's with an upgrade in the 1970's, the pools, pipework and water treatment plant have come to the end of their life and need replacement.
