What we do
Every day, we provide services, facilities and programmes to Hutt City’s 100,000 residents and many thousands more people who visit or work here. It’s truly rewarding to know that whatever your role, you can make a genuine difference to the community.
We have a diverse range of roles, so you’ll gain a variety of skills and experiences here.
Our structure
We’re organised into five groups:
CEO’s office
- Provides HR advice and support
- Is responsible for the financial and accounting functions of the Council
Strategic services
The strategic services group:
- Provides information services including IT operations, application development and management, applications training, geographical information systems (GIS), project management, and corporate information
- Provides communications and marketing advice and support
- Operates our customer contact centre and our customer service centre
- Supports business, tourism and environmental development in Hutt City
- Develops and implements environmental objectives, policies and rules, and monitor the environment, primarily through the District Plan
- Provides policy advice, develops strategy, carries out research and manages corporate planning
- Provides architecture and urban design advice
- Manages Kaupapa Maori projects
City infrastructure group
The city infrastructure group:
- Manages all aspects of the roading network, from the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and footpaths to the management of traffic flows
- Develops, implements and monitors emergency management plans, and promotes community preparedness for emergencies
- Manages our sports grounds, horticultural parks, bush reserves, beaches, playgrounds, gardens, street trees and cemeteries
Community services group
The community services group:
- Operates our eight libraries
- Delivers our recreational programmes and events
- Manages our recreational facilities, such as pools, fitness suites and the Walter Nash Stadium
- Operates our two museums – TheNewDowse and the Petone Settlers Museum
- Supports community and youth development in Hutt City
Governance and regulatory group
The governance and regulatory group:
- Provides governance and legal advice to the organisation
- Provides administrative support to the Mayor's office, elected members and appointed members
- Manages the Council’s meeting processes
- Advises on strategic planning, risk management, and organisational performance
- Undertakes the regulatory resource and building consents and compliance functions for building work in Hutt City, and produces LIM and PIM reports
- Carries out inspections and enforces council bylaws and government legislation
