Recreation programmes for seniors

Hutt City Council offers a range of activities designed to get your heart rate up in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

We aim to provide a great mixture of exercise options to help keep you active and well.

Get Going: older adults exercise classes

Come along and try some of our new group fitness classes to add some variety and fun to your day. More people equals more fun!

We all know that regular exercise can benefit everybody. It can help manage diabetes, increase mobility and muscle strength, reduce blood pressure, and is also great for osteoporosis and weight loss. But, best of all it’s a great opportunity to meet some new friends and have fun while doing it.

All classes have been specially adapted to the older adults needs, so come along and give them a go. All Hutt City Council classes are delivered by qualified and experienced instructors. 

Try out our new 10 trip card ($50) which is valid for any the classes below.  The 10 trip ticket can be purchased at the class or by contacting us on the number below with a credit card.

Term 2 2013

Zumba Gold - Toning

Day: Mondays 6 May to 8 July
Time: 10.45am - 11.30am 
Venue: Horticultural Hall Supper Room, Laings Road, (entrance off Fountain car park)
Cost: $50 for 10 trip card or $7 casual (pay at Council building)
Instructor: Natarsha Williams

An easy-to-follow dance-fitness class featuring lightweight resistance training and exciting international rhythms whilst building muscle strength, increasing bone density, and improving mobility, posture and coordination.

Stretch + Flex

Day: Mondays 6 May to 8 July
Time: 11.40am - 12.30pm 
Venue: Horticultural Hall Supper Room, Laings Road (entrance off Fountain carpark)
Cost: $50 for 10 trip card or $7 casual (pay at Council building)
Instructor: Natarsha Williams

This gentle stretch class for seniors uses simple stretches designed to increase flexibility and strength while improving balance and coordination. 

Pilates Gold

Day: Thursdays 9 May to 11 July
Time: 10am – 11am
Venue: Moera Hall, Randwick Cres, Moera (behind Library)
Public transport: Bus #’s 83 and 130 (stop at Moera shops)
Cost: $50 for 10 trip card or $7 casual (on the door)
Instructor: Sarah West

Gain energy , develop stamina, tone-up and feel better. Non-impact exercises work deep adominal muscles, while efficient and graceful movements strengthen and stretch your body and help reduce joint stress

Experience the fun, party like atmosphere of this Latin inspired dance/fitness programme. Zumba Gold offers fun, simply and easy to learn dance moves especially designed for seniors. It’s invigorating and safe and helps build cardiovascular health by challenging the heart and working the muscles of the hips, legs and arms. Go at your own pace and feel good!

Liquid Fitness Nifties - Naenae

Day: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
Time: 9:30am – 10:30am (60 mins)
Venue: Naenae Pool, Everest Avenue, Naenae
Public transport: Bus #130 (stop at Naenae shopping centre)
Cost: $3.50 per class

Liquid Fitness Nifties – Stokes Valley

Day: Monday and Thursday
Time: 9:00am – 10:00am (60 mins)
Venue: Stokes Valley Pool, Bower Street, Stokes Valley
Public transport: Bus #120 (stop at Stokes Valley shopping centre)
Cost: $3.50 per class
