Exhibition of Wellington's First Settler Ships - Oil Paintings by Paul Deacon

Paul Deacon's exhibition at Artspace Gallery featuring oil paintings of our first settler ships has been a big hit and it's been exciting to see people coming from all over the Wellington region especially to see it. The exhibition has been of special interest to residents whose distant relatives came out on one of these ships and it's been fascinating hearing stories of the voyage out, arriving and life on Petone beach after they landed. Also of interest is that many of the first ships had streets named after them in Wellington and Petone such as Oriental, Cuba, Tory, Aurora, Adelaide, Bolton and Buick.

As well as displaying magnificent large paintings, the exhibition also features a beautiful selection of fine art prints of the originals and a delightful collection of Pauls nautical pen and ink sketches.

The exhibition is on display until 4pm Sunday 24 February

In addition to Paul Deacons exhibition the gallery has a delightful display of new art by local artists and unique range of locally made gifts.
