Residents and ratepayers have the chance to vote for:
- the Mayor
- Community Boards
- the Hutt Valley District Health Board
- Mana Charitable Trust
- the Greater Wellington Regional Council.

The next local elections will be held on Saturday 8 October 2022.

- Harbour Ward
- Northern Ward
- Wainuiomata Ward
- Western Ward.

Lower Hutt Central Ward By-election
The by-election for the position of Central Ward Councillor was held following a recent resignation.
The final result for the by-election that closed at midday on Friday 24 September 2021 is:

Glenda BARRATT is declared elected.
The voter return was 24.15%, being 3282 votes.

Petone Community Board by-election
A vacancy has arisen on the Petone Community Board due to one of the members being elected to council in the 2019 election.
Alex VOUTRATZIS is declared elected. The voter return was 21.24%, being 2,117 votes.
