Intention to Lease area of reserve land - Wainuiomata

The Hutt City Council intends to consider a proposal to issue a new Lease in the term of 15 years with rights of renewal to Te Ngahere o Te Rangimarie Kōhanga Reo.

This proposal is for an area of 800m2 (more or less) in a Local Purpose reserve at 9 Wellington Road, Wainuiomata being Section 29 Lowry Bay District contained in Certificate of Title 222617. The image below shows the approximate location of the proposed building (yellow rectangle).

Wellington Road Lease

The issue of the new lease will allow Te Ngahere o Te Rangimarie Kōhanga Reo to expand their operations by building a whare for the mokopuna, focusing on teaching te reo māori and tīkanga as the existing Kōhanga Reo has reached capacity, and there is a need to provide larger space to accommodate growing number of students.

The purpose of Te Kohanga Reo National Trust/Charitable Trust is to strengthen the Kohanga Reo movement, including Reo/Language revitalization, learning and whanau development.

The intention to issue a Lease is consistent with Council policy and under the Reserves Act 1977, Section 61 (2a).

The proposal is scheduled to be reported to the Wainuiomata Community Board at its meeting on Wednesday 19 June 2024.

Anyone wishing to make a submission in respect of any of the above proposal is required to lodge this in writing with Council no later than 5pm Wednesday 9 May 2024.
