Hutt City Council staff aim to create inclusive and safe environments, both in person or online, where everyone feels welcome.
To ensure a positive experience and keep everyone safe, we ask that everyone behaves in a safe and responsible manner and treat all staff, visitors and Council facilities with care and respect. This includes being considerate in any form of communication, including talking to our staff in person or on the phone, via email, social media or any other form of communication. This will ensure we are able to help you, and to keep our communication positive and constructive.
We are all responsible for keeping tamariki (children) safe in our families and communities. Children under 14 are legally required to be supervised at all times, including when visiting our public sites. It is the responsibility of the caregivers, or adults responsible to ensure there is suitable supervision in place.
If you have a certified assistance dog (disability assist dogs), you have the right to bring them onto our public sites. An assistance dog is a generic term for a guide, hearing or assistance dog that is specifically trained to support the effects of an individual’s disability. An assistance dog has to be certified as a 'disability assist dog' by an approved organisation like the Blind Foundation, Assistance Dogs NZ or Hearing Dogs for Deaf People NZ.
Domestic animals, smoking, vaping, weapons, gang patches and insignia are prohibited at public premises.
Staff have the right to ask you to leave or finish a call if you behave inappropriately or are being disruptive. This may include yelling, swearing, intimidating behaviour, being under the influence/intoxicated, acting suspiciously or making others feel uncomfortable. If you are asked to leave, a staff member will advise when you can return.
Hutt City Council also has the right to issue a trespass notice for ongoing or significant behaviour breaches, as per requirements under the Trespass Act.
