Hutt City Council has completed an assessment of all buildings affected by the damaging wind of 12 December and found two which cannot be inhabited.

The wind lifted several roofs and knocked over two garages.

Two garages have been destroyed and have been issued with red notices, which requires them to be demolished.

Roofs lifted off three commercial buildings in the path of the storm and were secured by emergency services.

These have been issued with yellow notices which allow Restricted access to parts of the buildings for retrieval of property and repair work only.

All Council properties in the path of the storm were assessed.

The closed Petone Rec Grandstand has sustained damage from the wind and planned work to remove parts of the structure for public safety,  and should be completed by the weekend weather permitting.

The area has been fenced off for public safety and this will remain in place for the duration of the removal. The main structure remains closed. Toilets and changing facilities are available on the ground floor.
