What are community boards?
Community boards are sub-district, unincorporated bodies that are neither local authorities nor committees of a local authority. They provide a mechanism for bringing council decision-making closer to citizens and communities, by way of decision-making on local services at the community level. This enables decision-making to better respond to local needs and preferences, while also meeting the principles of allocative efficiency.

Check out the Guide to Community Boards on the Local Government New Zealand website. This document provides an easy-to-follow overview of community boards, including their history, setup, functions, collaboration with councils, and the responsibilities of their members. It also includes tips on how boards can be more effective, what board members can expect in their roles (like remuneration), plus handy resources like templates and self-assessment tools."
