Council continues to strengthen its position as a national leader in the practical and appropriate adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across local government.
Throughout the year, Council advanced the use of AI to improve service delivery, increase productivity, and support better outcomes for residents. AI-enabled solutions were expanded across a range of services, including property information requests, dog registrations, resource consents, and building consents. During the year, an AI-powered building consent tool was successfully integrated into Council’s new consent management system, replacing the previous GoGet platform.
Council also played a leading role in supporting the wider local government sector to explore and adopt AI. We shared our experience and lessons learned with numerous councils and organisations, including Upper Hutt City Council, Ashburton District Council, Rotorua Lakes Council, Hastings District Council, Porirua City Council, Wellington City Council, the Public Service Commission, the Ministry for Regulation, the Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Matamata-Piako District Council, and the Association of Local Government Information Management Australia.
Council staff delivered AI training programmes, hosted webinars, and developed workshops to help build AI capability across the public sector. Our approach to using AI to improve organisational productivity and customer services was also showcased at national forums, including the Chief Information Officer Leaders Summit.
By sharing our expertise and demonstrating practical applications of AI, Hutt City Council is helping shape the future of digital innovation in local government while continuing to deliver more efficient and responsive services for our community.
