Whiorau Reserve was buzzing with excitement as people gathered in February 2025 to celebrate the halfway milestone of the Tupua Horo Nuku Project.
The community turned out in force - testing e-bikes on open sections of the pathway with Pedal Ready and MeloYelo, raising funds for Sustainable Coastlines, and connecting with MIRO, a local group dedicated to pest control and restoration.
With karakia and mihi whakatau from Mana Whenua Steering Group member Lee Hunter (Te Āti Awa Taranaki Whānui), and speeches from representatives of Hutt City Council and the Eastbourne Community Board, a strong sense of community was felt on the day.
Special thanks to tamariki from Muritai School who performed waiata tautoko for speakers, aligning with Te Āti Awa tikanga, as well as waiata ngahau to entertain those who attended.
Thank you to everyone who came along (many on foot or by bike!) to celebrate this significant achievement.
