Summer in the Hutt is back! Running from 1 December to 31 March, this vibrant summer programme brings our city to life by celebrating the incredible talent, energy and diversity of our communities. We’re looking for exciting events and activities that bring people together, create memorable experiences and make Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt the place to be this summer!

Have an idea that could bring people together this summer?
We're looking for local community groups, organisations and businesses with ideas that could help make Summer in the Hutt vibrant, welcoming and connect our community across Te Awa Kairangi.
Whether it's a neighbourhood picnic, outdoor movie, cultural celebration, sports activity, live music, creative workshop or something completely different, we'd love to hear about it.
Ideas don't need to be fully planned yet. This Expression of Interest helps us understand what's being considered across the city and explore whether Council can support your idea.
How we may be able to help
Depending on your idea and how it aligns with the Summer in the Hutt programme, we may be able to offer:
- Community Events Support Fund information or funding
- Event advice and planning support
- Promotion through the Summer in the Hutt campaign
- Connections with your local Neighbourhood Hub
- Introductions to potential partners
- Advice on Council venues or public spaces.
Submitting an Expression of Interest doesn't guarantee funding or inclusion in the programme. We'll review all ideas against the Summer in the Hutt priorities and available resources before getting in touch.
Submissions close 30 August 2026.
Summer in the Hutt is a collaborative programme. If your idea is a good fit, we'll be in touch to talk through the next steps and explore how we can work together.
You will find out if your Expression of Interest was successful by 15 September 2026.
If your event goes ahead, your organisation will remain responsible for planning and delivering the event, including any permissions, health and safety requirements, insurance and event management. Council's role is to provide advice, connections and support where we can.
