Here comes the sun: Summer activities in the Hutt

Summer has arrived! And along with the summer period comes a whole lot of fun. The Hutt is busy with activities, and everyone enjoying the sunshine. So, why not get amongst it and enjoy it too! There’s plenty of things for you and your whānau to do.

Christmas at the Dog Park – 10 December from 10am to 12pm
Head on down to Les Dalton Dog Park in Wainuiomata and celebrate Christmas with your furry friends and their friends! Enjoy a sausage sizzle while your dog enjoys some doggie treats before dashing around the dog park all dressed in their best ‘Christmas outfit’. There will be a photographer on site to capture your dog’s very own Christmas portrait.

Community-led Christmas events
There are a range of community-led Christmas events happening around Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai Lower Hutt that are supported by Hutt City Council’s Christmas Event Support Fund. Including, Petone Santa’s grotto, Pomare Taita Hanakoko Grotto, Moera Christmas in the Park and Maungaraki Community Christmas Carols. The Little, Big and Even Bigger Read – 1 December 2023 to 31 January 2024
In partnership with Upper Hutt Libraries, the summer reading challenge is back. There are three challenges, The Little Read for under 5s, The Big Read for ages 5-12 and The Even Bigger Read for 13+. Tamariki of all ages can pick up a journal for FREE from any of the eleven libraries in Lower Hutt or Upper Hutt from 1 December. The booklets contain activities and challenges for your tamariki to participate in, with prizes up for grabs. Avoid that summer slide and head down to your nearest library to participate. Summer pool fun
Enjoy a dip in one of three summer pools that we have in our region – Wainuiomata, McKenzie Baths and Eastbourne! Enjoy the poolside spa and hydroslide at Wainuiomata Summer Pool, the splash pad at McKenzie Baths or some lane swimming at Eastbourne. Learn more about our summer pools here: hutt.city/summerpools
