Lower Hutt is turning up the cultural heat this November, with three festivals bringing a world of food, music and colour to the city.
From Latin American rhythms and Islamic food traditions to an Indian Christmas celebration, the city is preparing for a feast of cultures.
Hutt City Council says the festivals reflect the city's rich diversity and give communities a chance to share their traditions, food and talents.
The November celebrations include:
- Latin Market & Expo, Saturday 14 November: Dowse Square and James Coe Centre in The Dowse, 10am to 5pm. Organised by Latin Events Welly, this free festival bursts with Latin American food, live music, dancing, crafts and businesses. It's also part of the Wellington Heritage Festival.
- Islamic International Food Festival, Sunday 22 November: Dowse Square offers a taste of food traditions from different cultures, inviting visitors to explore new flavours.
- Jingle Bells 2026, Sunday 29 November: Organised by the Wellington Malayalee Association at the Lower Hutt Events Centre, this Christmas celebration starts at 2pm with carol singing, competitions, traditional performances and Christmas tree decorating.
Mayor Ken Laban says the festivals reflect what makes Lower Hutt special.
“Lower Hutt is home to people from all corners of the world, and November is our chance to celebrate that in spectacular style.
“Food, music and dance bring people together, break down barriers and help us appreciate our neighbours' cultures and traditions.
“These festivals are about more than entertainment. They're about belonging, sharing our stories and celebrating what makes our city such a vibrant place to live.”
Dowse Square already hosts the popular Thursday Hutt City Night Market, bringing families and friends together over food from around the world.
With November packed with celebrations, residents and visitors are encouraged to bring their whānau, try something new and join the fun.
