⚠️ UPDATE: 22 April, 3.50pm

Kia ora Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai / Lower Hutt! It’s been a wild few days for our city and yup...the rain is still off and on, but the good news is that the State of Emergency and all weather warnings have been lifted for Lower Hutt.

⚠️ While conditions have improved, saturated ground across the region means some risks remain. Slips, surface flooding and debris can still occur, particularly if further rain falls.

People are urged to:

  • take care when moving around the city and during any clean‑up
  • avoid unstable slopes, slip areas and damaged roads or tracks
  • be cautious around pooled water, mud and silt, which may be contaminated
  • continue following official advice from council and MetService

As we move to clean-up and recovery, you’ll continue to see our teams out around the city until clean-up is complete.

What you need to know:
🏢Our facilities are back with usual operating hours
🚗 All local roads are OPEN
🚧 SH2 Kaitoke to Featherston, (Remutaka Hill) is now OPEN

🚶‍♀️‍➡️Tracks and trails - Horoeka Loop Track and the Horoeka Loop Track Extension in Stokes Valley have partial closures. All other tracks are open, but be cautious, turn back if there is any damage and report it to Council.

❤️ We know we don’t need to tell all you wonderful people this, because you’ve all been acing it, but take care out there and continue to look out for each other ❤️

⚠️ UPDATE: 21 April, 9.30pm

All the Heavy Rain Warnings for the Wellington region have now been lifted following the latest update from MetService. Light to moderate rain or showers will continue to affect the region into Thursday.
Please stay up to date with the forecasts.
⚠️The State of Emergency is still in place for Wellington City, Hutt City, and Wairarapa in case the situation worsens overnight.  We will continue to monitor conditions and share updates if the situation changes.

While the heavy rainfall risk has passed, it’s important to keep a careful eye out for landslips on our soggy hillsides. Visit hutt.city/landslips for advice. Also stay careful around waterways due to high water levels and soggy ground conditions.

As we move to clean-up and recovery our Emergency Operation Centre will begin winding down this evening. You will still see our teams out around the city until clean-up is complete.

🏢Our facilities are back to their usual operating hours
🚗 All local roads are OPEN
🚧 SH2 Kaitoke to Featherston, (Remutaka Hill) remains CLOSED

❤️ THANK YOU ❤️

A huge thank you to the groups, individuals and Council staff and contractors who have supported our residents during this event and have been working extremely hard, often behind the scenes.

Although they mostly weren’t needed in the end, we had up to 2000 beds available across the city, which is an amazing show of community spirit.

We also extend our thanks to all those who have stepped forward to support our Māori and Pacific Communities from Saturday through to today. This includes our Iwi Leaders, Council Tumuaki Māori, Tākaihere Support Team from the Hono Māori Emergency Network, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Pacific Emergency Response Alliance, Marae whānau, Faith and Community leaders, Porirua City Council Tākaihere Team, Māori and Pacific Social Services.
