From 2 November 2026, most Hutt City Council neighbourhood hubs and libraries will stop accepting cash payments. You’ll still be able to pay by EFTPOS.

Cash will continue to be accepted at pools, fitness centres, museums and the Walter Nash Centre.

This is the next stage of Council’s move away from cash payments, following the change at our Laings Road administration building in September. Very few Council payments are now made in cash, while handling cash takes staff time and adds costs for counting, transporting and banking it.

Wainuiomata and Stokes Valley are the only neighbourhood hubs that accept rates payments. If you currently pay your rates there in cash, you can instead pay by EFTPOS at the hub, internet banking, Payble, or cash at selected NZ Post locations. Find out more about rates payment options here.

If you usually pay by cash at a hub or library, please talk to our team before 2 November. They can explain your options and help you prepare for the change.
