They’re simple to use and located at key destinations or facilities, supporting our goal to make cycling a more visible and accessible option around our city.

How to use a Locky Dock

Locky Docks are an easy and convenient way to charge and secure your bike.

Use the Locky Dock app (available on iOS and Android) and follow the on-screen instructions.

You can also get a Locky Dock card. These are available from Te Ngaengae Pool, Koraunui Stokes Valley Neighbourhood Hub, and at the Hutt City Council building on Laings Road.

Our sites

  • Te Ngaengae Pool is a major community hub in the area with high visitor numbers and a steady flow of people arriving on foot or by bike and scooter. The Locky Dock provides convenient and secure parking for cyclists, improving accessibility and encouraging active transport to and from the new pool and wider Hillary Court.
  • Koraunui Stokes Valley Neighbourhood Hub is a central community space with a diverse range of visitors. The Locky Dock provides convenient and secure parking for cyclists, encouraging active transport to and from the hub and Scott Court.
  • Queensgate Shopping Centre is one of the busiest destinations in Lower Hutt with a high volume of people arriving by foot or bike, as well as being close to public transport connections. The Locky Dock provides convenient and secure bike or scooter parking for shoppers, commuters, and visitors, encouraging active transport within our city centre.
  • The Locky Dock on Laings Road is part of our busy civic precinct which includes The Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt Events Centre, Riddiford Garden and the Hutt City Council Building. It’s also close to the Hutt River Trail which is part of the greater Remutaka Cycle Trail network, making in a key central location for providing convenient and secure parking for both recreational and commuter cyclists as well as city centre visitors.

Yes, to charge your eBike at a Locky Dock, you’ll need to BYO charging cable.

Yes! You can also plug in a cable to charge your phone. You’ll need to BYO charging cable.

Yes, some types of eScooters can be charged but not all. You’ll also need to bring your own charging cable.

Yes! You can lock standard bikes, eBikes and cargo bikes at a Locky Dock.

Council funded the power connections for four sites as part of wider efforts to encourage low-emission transport options.

For our site on Laings Road (near The Dowse Art Museum), Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment funding was used to pay for the Locky Docks capex. Ongoing power consumption will be covered by Council.

For our sites at Queensgate, Te Ngaengae Pool and the Koraunui Stokes Valley Neighbourhood Hub, Big Street Bikers covered all installation costs, including the Locky Docks themselves, and they will also cover ongoing power consumption.

Big Street Bikers will manage the ongoing maintenance of all five Locky Docks.
