You can update your dog details using this one form for the following:

  • Change of ownership
  • Change of contact details or address (within Lower Hutt)
  • My dog and I have left Lower Hutt
  • My dog and I have left New Zealand permanently

Change of address

Moving within Lower Hutt

If you're moving to a new address within Lower Hutt or would like your postal address changed please let us know within 14 days.

Moving to Lower Hutt from another area

If you are moving to Lower Hutt from another area, you can transfer your registration for free. Please fill out our online registration form and make sure you let your previous council know of your move.

Moving overseas

If you are moving overseas you need to let us know. You will need an export certificate.

Let us know if your dog has died

It's really distressing when a much-loved pet has passed, and we understand that admin is the last thing you want to be thinking about at such a time. However, it's important to take a moment to let us know so we can update our records. Owners are legally obliged to notify councils of any change in circumstances. This also saves you the upset of receiving a fine for non-registration of a pet you're grieving for.

You may be entitled to a refund of your registration costs. Under the Dog Control Act 1996, the refund will be a pro-rata amount calculated from the date you tell us that your dog has died.

The registration can be refunded:

  • to a bank account
  • to your rates account
  • as a donation to SPCA or HUHA.
