How to book an interment

You will need to purchase a plot if you do not have one already. Please fill out an Application to lease a plot and we will get in contact with your allocated plot.

Once you have a plot and all relevant permission, please fill out an interment booking request. We will get in touch with you regarding booking confirmation or if there are any issues.

Body burial funerals

We heavily recommend organising body burial funerals through a funeral director.

If you're working with a funeral director

  • A funeral director will book and send through the burial service paperwork and all other relevant details and paperwork
  • We'll confirm the date and time of the booking and the details of the deceased with the funeral director
  • We'll allocate and let the funeral director know the location of the plot if required for a new plot purchase

Important information

  • All families will have the space and time during a funeral. To make sure this happens, we stagger funeral bookings.
  • Our funeral staff (Downer) can refuse entry to your funeral procession if you turn up earlier than the booked time, or if another funeral is still in progress.
  • Downer will tell you what time you need to leave the cemetery if your procession has arrived much later than the booked time and there is another funeral booked.
  • Bookings are not confirmed until you receive booking confirmation from us at Hutt City Council, this is in the form of a PDF that is titled booking confirmation which states the time, date, location and who is getting buried.
  • We require at minimum 2 working days (48 hours) notice for any interment booking, this is notice is given by providing us a booking form with all required information.
  • We hold the right to deny an interment booking request. This can be due to incomplete paperwork, not providing enough notice, other bookings already being booked, or any other logistical reason, we will inform you if this is the case.
  • We are not open Sundays or Public Holidays.
